Cooking in the Classroom
Each week we will cook something that is connected to our thematic unit. Cooking benefits preschoolers in many ways.
- Build basic skills. Math skills can be strengthened by simply counting eggs or pouring water into a measuring cup. When you read a recipe together, you're introducing new words to your child's vocabulary and promoting literacy. Following steps in the recipe can work on listening skills.
- Encourage an adventurous palate. Preschoolers are notoriously picky eaters. Our little chefs may be more likely to try a new food they have made.
- Explore with their senses. Preschoolers learn by exploring with their senses. Listening to the whir of the mixer, pounding dough, smelling it warm from the oven, and tasting warm bread.
- Boosting confidence. Preschoolers love to show what they can do. Working in the kitchen provides opportunities to gain a sense of accomplishment.
